"1880 Northern Montana" -- the last wild herd of buffalo or American Bison. Photographed L.A. Huffman, and published by him in 1913. This original photo is now restored and in the copyrighted collection of The Stock Solution. Prints are available for purchase by clicking on the "Buy" button (top right). Huffman was an Eastern Montana photographer who's photographs range from 1879 - 1931 (when he died at the age of 77). Here is a photo-postcard he issued in 1907 showing the killing of several cows and spike buffalo. It was from this Montana/Wyoming herd that a final 23 individuals took shelter in the Pelican Valley area of Yellowstone. It is from these last survivors that the current herd of Yellowstone bison descended!
